Rodney Mynatt and Tommy Sheridan, better known as Mooke & Chemist of Smoke Screen, have been consistently performing and releasing music for over a decade.
Chemist and Mooke, the two MCs that make up Smoke Screen have influences in disparate realms of music – alternative, Top 40, underground etc… but when the two Cleveland MCs combine, they have an explosive and party-starting chemistry that’s rocked audiences all over the genre barrier.
Smoke Screen has done countless shows throughout the East Coast and Midwest promoting their releases. They have shared the stage with the likes of Black Star (Mos Def & Talib Kweli), Girl Talk, Redman, Danny Brown, Das Racist, Wale, Big Sean, Mr. Lif, Evidence, Brother Ali, Clipse, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, and many more.
Since 2007, the duo has released 5 full-length projects. 2010′s greatly-received ‘Imagination Beyond Illustration’ LP was followed by the adventurous remix project ‘Re:Imagined’.
After a Spring 2011 East Coast Tour, performing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the legendary Cleveland Public Hall and rocking the stage at The House of Blues in Cleveland, Smoke Screen remains consistent and innovative and they are continuously evolving and highly ambitious.
2012 saw the release of the Ice Cold Water EP along with two official music videos for the title track and Smoke & Lasers, both shot and produced by Turnstyle Films. We also received nominations for Best Group and Album Of The Year for Ice Cold Water at The Ohio Hip Hop Awards.
As for 2013, it was a particularly busy year for the duo: The collaborative Turquoise EP with Urbindex was released, the group did guest features on singles for Swarthy Soul, Crucial Taunt and more, performed shows with Danny Brown, Redman and Two Fresh, performed at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park at E.S.T. Fest and Summerdance ’13, dropped the heavyweight collab LP Smoke Noises with Ghost Noises, and performed at Ingenuity Fest for the third consecutive year just to name a few things.
The single Barry Blanco produced by The Kickdrums was released in 2014 along with the Smoke Noises EP ‘Make It To A Dollar’ as well as appearances at Nelson’s Ledges, Weapons Of Mass Creation Fest, New York Fashion Week with RVAH and more.
